Pema Chödrön's THE MYTH OF FREEDOM : A DVD series
January 10 / 7:30 PM-9:30 PM
Price: $10 General Public
Pema Chödrön teaches from Chögyam Trungpa's famous text: "The Myth Of Freedom." This six talk commentary is Pema's most recent seminar.
Pema Chödrön is a fully ordained nun and the main teacher at Gampo Abbey in Nova Scotia, Canada. She first met her main teacher, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1972 and studied with him until his death in 1987. Trungpa Rinpoche's unique ability to express the essence of Buddhist teachings in the language and imagery of Contemporary American culture makes "The Myth of Freedom" one of the best sources of Buddhist doctrine ever written. In this book, Trungpa explores how our attitudes and preconceptions bind us to repetitive patterns of frustration and despair. He also explains how meditation can bring into focus the causes of frustration and how these negative forces can aid us toward advancing toward true freedom.
An opportunity to practice before the program is offered. Meditation will start at 6:30pm and end at 7:15pm. Feel free to come sit for any part of those 45 minutes before we view the video at 7:30pm.

On the first Sunday of every month, the Westside Shambhala Meditation Group will host a brief discussion on the basics of Shambhala Buddhism.
What is it, how do you meditate, what is Buddhism?
The discussion will be followed by an open question and answer period with an experienced Shambhala Meditation Instructor. And finally, we'll end the day with a small, casual open house.
These short and open discussions are the perfect place for people to discover what Shambhala is all about, to learn to meditate, or simply to just check out Buddhism for the first time.
